Rouge Product Information
What's the difference between the Tabletop, Essential and Pro?
All three models are based on the same electronics and share the same LEDs and configuration with half the LEDs configured at 660nm and the other half at 850nm. They all come with the same hardware and accessories. They are all modular (they can connect to each other for form a larger panel). They are all best-in-class products and are designed to outperform the competition by a lot.
Their dimensions are the key difference. Though they all measure 8.7" wide and are 2.3" deep, their height varies, which means they have quite different coverage areas.
- The Tabletop measures 10.4" high. It is best suited for targeted treatments.
- The Essential is 18.9" and is best suited for larger areas like the torso for example.
- The Pro is 27.2" and is designed to cover more than half your body at close range.
Can they be connected together to increase coverage area?
The Tabletop, Essential and Pro are designed to be connected together and work as one. You can connect multiple units together, although by far the most common configurations are 2 or 3 panels.
Each device comes with a patch cable to allow it to receive power from another panel. They connect together in a daisy-chain and only the main panel will draw power from the wall outlet. They communicate together wirelessly through Bluetooth technology. No configuration is required, and assembling two panels together is extremely simple.
How many watts does each unit consume?
These devices are often referred to as "500W", "1000W" and "1500W" - this only refers to the maximum capacity of the LEDs that are mounted onto the units. It does NOT reflect how much energy they consume or relay through photons. They're simple indicators of maximum power capacity of the LEDs which are all 5W capacity LEDs.
The Tabletop has 100 LEDs @ 5 watts maximum capacity each. It consumes 120 watts
The Essential has 200 LEDs @ 5 watts maximum capacity each. It consumes 235 watts
The Pro has 300 LEDs @ 5 watts maximum capacity each. It consumes 352 watts
The Ultimate has 1200 LED's @ 5 watts maximum capacity each. It consumes 1500 watts
What are the EMF ratings for these devices?
One of the most important factors to consider when buying a red light therapy device is the amount of EMF generated by the product.
All of our panels have extremely low EMF ratings, and at a 4" distance, the reading is a steady 0.00 - making Rouge the industry's lowest EMF emission panels.
What is the irradiance of these products?
Irradiance, or power density, is the most important variable to consider when buying a red light therapy panel. It dictates how effective your treatments will be. Of course, product quality and wavelength distribution are critical, but considering many brands of red light therapy panels offer decent quality panels with wavelengths of 660nm and 850nm, and that while prices vary, they are relatively similar, then the key differentiator remaining is power density.
Here are the irradiance charts for the Rouge Tabletop, Essential and Pro. These show you how much light will reach what surface area depending on the distance at which you stand from the light.
Have Your Lights Been Third Party Tested?
Absolutely! We are thrilled to announce that We sent the Rouge Pro for independent testing at the aptly-named Independent Testing Laboratories in Boulder, Colorado. One of the first light testing laboratories in the country, ITL is the gold standard for unbiased third-party light and photometric testing. Also the same lab used by all our competition, so we can really compare results. Rouge Red Light Therapy Outshines the Competition - By 2.75X! Which Rouge device is best for me?
That entirely depends on your budget, the reason you are buying the light - including the size of the area you are trying to treat, the benefit you are seeking and how much time you have to spend on treating yourself.
The sizes range from the Rouge Tabletop which is geared towards targeted treatment, the Rouge Essential for larger areas, the Rouge Pro which is considered half body and the full body Rouge Ultimate - we cover all your needs. We even have Rouge Nano which is portable for when you are on travel. Feel free to reach out to us to help determine which is the best choice for you!
How do your lights compare to other name brands?
We welcome this question!
This is what we get excited about, folks. We’ve worked so hard to be able to provide you with personal red light therapy devices that are not only compact and affordable, but powerful, too. And now, hold onto your hats, ‘cause we’ve got receipts.
We sent the Rouge Pro for independent testing at the aptly-named Independent Testing Laboratories in Boulder, Colorado. One of the first light testing laboratories in the country, ITL is the gold standard for unbiased third-party light and photometric testing. With 60 years of experience and a strict adherence to the guidelines of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), it’s the go-to testing lab for lighting manufacturers, architects, governments, and many other organizations across the country and beyond.
While ITL’s mandate is to provide clients with data that is easy to read and interpret, the terminology might not be so clear to everyone. In other words, what’s the difference between a joule and a watt, and why is it important for red light therapy? Let’s break it down.
Energy is, in a nutshell, what is transferred to an object to make it work. The unit of energy is the joule. Power, on the other hand, is the rate at which energy is transferred, and is measured in watts. A watt equals a joule per second. So, if you’ve got a 100 watt light bulb, it’s transferring 100 joules of energy per second.
We had the Rouge Pro tested for total light output power (watts), total energy output in 10 minutes (joules), device surface area (sq cm), and energy density (joules/sq cm/minute). We also know that two of our competition’s devices underwent the same tests, the Joovv Solo and the MitoMax, which is great because it allows us to see how Rouge red light therapy measures up. The results blew us away.

Troubleshooting
My panel stopped working and it says SUB1 on the control panel
Don't worry, this is totally normal.
If you have only one panel, the solution is to simply press the small silver button the back of the panel next to the red on and off switch. Everything will return to normal operating mode.
If connecting more than one panel, follow the directions below.
1. Plug the power cord into the female socket of your therapy light.
2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a wall socket.
3. Rouge Series light has two red power switches, both on
the same side of the power cord socket. Each switch
controls 50% of the LEDs in the light. One control all RED
LEDs, and the other control Infrared LEDs.
4. Press the switches, the light will work in full power.

Why do some lights look like they are not working?
About half of the lights on all Rouge devices deliver Near Infrared (NIR) light at 850nm. This light spectrum is invisible to the human eye, which is why you cannot actually see light coming from them. If you use only NIR, the device will appear to emit no light. If you use red, or both NIR and red light, then you will see bright red light coming from the panel.
Red Light Therapy
Do I need to use eye protection while I use my Rouge products
We do recommend wearing the protective goggles that come with each Rouge device. We also advise against looking directly into the LED lights as they are very bright.
Is Red Light Therapy safe?
Red light therapy is generally generally considered to be very safe and there are no known side effects. However there are some considerations where you should avoid using red light or at least discuss it with your physician.
If you are sensitive to light, we recommend speaking to your doctor prior to using Rouge. If you are pregnant, have cancerous or potentially cancerous lesions, or if you are taking medication such as Tetracycline, Digoxin, Retin A, or any other photosensitizing drug, you should speak to your healthcare provider before using Rouge. You should not use Rouge on infants.
What are the guidelines for length, distance and frequency of using your lights?
ROUGE RED LIGHT THERAPY DOSAGE GUIDELINES
We recommend starting slow with shorter sessions at a greater distance. Be conservative on initial dosage when working on more sensitive areas. Adding up all the areas you will treat, do not exceed 120 joules of exposure per session, which is approximately 15-20 minutes of total exposure at close range.
These guidelines are valid for all Rouge red light therapy products.
Frequency:
Minimum of 3 times per week, ideally once daily. If more than once per day is required, sessions should be at least 6 hours apart.
Distance from light:
The closer you are, the shorter your session will be and you will cover a smaller surface area. If you stand further away, you will be able to cover a larger area but more time will be required. Remember that we need to give the treatment area a certain amount of energy, as we move away from the light the energy available to your body diminishes rapidly.
For skin issues:
Skin requires 3 to 15 joules of red light (660nm) per session which you can achieve by following these guidelines:
6” (15 cm) from the light for 30 seconds to 2.5 minutes
12” (30 cm) from the light for 1 minute to 3.5 minutes
18” (45 cm) from the light for 1.5 minutes to 5 minutes
24” (60 cm) from the light for 2 minutes to 7 minutes
36” (90 cm) from the light for 3 minutes to 14 minutes
Note: If you are using red light for anti-aging or general skin health purposes, then you should stand between 12 and 36 inches from the light.
For more specific therapeutic or medical uses like treating wounds, scars, sores or other skin disorders or to stimulate hair growth then you should stand closer, between 6 and 12 inches for maximum effectiveness.
For deeper issues:
For treating deeper issues, like muscle, brain, bones, tendons, glands, fat, joints, fat, etc., we need between 10 and 40 joules of near infrared light (850nm). In this case we will always want to be close to the light. Here are guidelines to follow:
6” (15 cm) from the light for 2 minutes to 7 minutes
12” (30 cm) from the light for 5 minutes to 10 minutes
How does Red Light Therapy Work?
Red and red/infrared LED lights use ranges of wavelengths that penetrate the outer layer of the skin, providing the cells with usable energy. This brings about various reactions in the cells which are believed to have benefits. Learn More.
What is the difference between red and near infrared (NIR) light
Red light is visible to the eye. We use 660nm wavelength for all of our devices. It is a shorter wavelength, widely used in research and clinical settings. This wavelength is short which means it hits the surface of the skin and penetrates about 1-2mm below the skin's surface. Meanwhile, Near InfraRed (NIR) light is nearly invisible to the naked eye, and it penetrates deeper below the skin surface, 2 to 3mm. Rouge lights are always balanced with half our lights at 660nm and the other half at 850nm.
